It’s only a month since their last ‘Ruddington Yarn Bomb’ for Easter, but our local knitters, pom pom and tassle makers, crocheters and sewists from the ‘Handmade in Rudd’ Facebook group and beyond have been working flat out, before and since, to create their latest display in time for The King’s Coronation.
The now famous ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’ have created lots of brand new pieces to adorn the village centre, as well as an update to last year’s Queen’s Platinum Jubilee church railings ‘royal balcony’ tapestry to reflect the key Royal players this time around.
Chief Ninja Emma Scott points out specifically the bunting on the church railings: “This year we have added some of the flowers from the Kings emblem which pays tribute to his love of the natural world. I have it on good authority that the tutor roses were very fiddly!”
She adds: “As nature and the environment are some of King Charles’ biggest passions, we have themed our bollards and kids trail around the planet, endangered species and the importance of bees.”
To emphasise that environmental aspect, the Yarn Ninjas have created a free-to-enter ‘Kids Bee Trail’ around Ruddington: “Collect your free sheet from The Bottle Top, Framework Knitters Museum or Thomas James Estate Agents“ advises Emma. “It starts this weekend right up to ‘World Bee Day’ on 20th May. Don’t forget to post a photo to enter our prize draw for one of our cheeky bees!”
